Kings Canyon Tour from Yulara with Return To Alice Springs

Begin the day at the Ayers Rock Resort, and make your way to beautiful Kings Canyon, stopping for a delicious cooked breakfast at Kings Creek Station along the way. Located in the heart of Watarrka National Park, Kings Canyon lies in an ancient Australian landscape that is sacred ground for the Ulpanyali and Lilla people.

You may then choose either the Rim Walk or the 2KM Creek Bed Stroll. The Rim Walk is a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a 3-hour circuit, rated moderate to difficult for the adventurers of the group. This option is recommended for those with a good level of fitness, due to the rocky and steep nature of the trail. Join your guide for a hike to the top of Kings Canyon and 6 km walk along the Rim – learn about the history and geology of the region as well as the flora and fauna found in the area. It begins with a steep climb up a 100-metre cliff face revealing views of sandstone walls, grottos, chasms and cliffs. Enjoy some truly spectacular views of sprawling Watarrka National Park, and then begin the beautiful circuit around the canyon's rim, stopping to look down into the canyon gorge at the various lookout points peppered along the trail. Visit the Garden of Eden – a permanent water source in the George Gill Range (swimming not permitted).

For the more relaxing option: set off on a two-kilometre stroll along the creek bed that leads to impressive views of the canyon rim. This is an easier, shorter walk along the boulder-strewn canyon floor (you will forgo the full circuit). Listen to your driver guide explain the history and geology of the area and learn about the local flora and fauna including the MacDonnell Ranges Cycad. If choosing this option: there’s also time for a scenic helicopter flight (own expense) or a cool off in the pool at Kings Canyon Resort.

Enjoy some time out for lunch at Kings Canyon Resort (own expense). On the return journey to Alice Springs, your Driver Guide will explain the history of the surrounding cattle stations and other points of interest.
